1、 Maintenance of automotive precision parts

(1) Regular inspection

VISUAL INSPECTION

For precision accessories on the exterior of automobiles, such as chrome plated decorative strips and logos on the body surface, regular inspections should be conducted to check for fading, wear, or looseness. For example, chrome plated decorative strips may develop rust spots or lose their luster if exposed to sunlight or rain erosion for a long time. It is generally recommended to conduct a visual inspection once a month and promptly address any issues found.

For precision accessories on tires, such as hub covers, they should be checked for firmness and deformation. If the wheel hub cover falls off during driving, it may damage the tires and even cause safety accidents. You can also check the condition of the wheel hub cover during each car wash.

functional check

The precision sensors inside the engine, such as oxygen sensors, need to be regularly checked for their functionality. Professional automotive diagnostic equipment can be used to read data from the oxygen sensor. Under normal circumstances, the voltage output of the oxygen sensor should vary between 0.2-0.8V. If the voltage output is abnormal, it may indicate a sensor malfunction, which will affect the air-fuel ratio control of the engine, leading to increased fuel consumption and excessive exhaust emissions. It is generally recommended to conduct a functional check every 6 months or 5000 kilometers.

Precision components in the braking system, such as sensors for electronic stability programs (ESP), should be checked for proper functioning. It can be determined by observing the fault indicator light on the dashboard after starting the vehicle. If the ESP malfunction indicator light is constantly on, it indicates that there may be a problem with the system and it needs to be repaired in a timely manner. Usually, a simple functional check should be conducted every 3 months or 2000 kilometers.

(2) Cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning of mechanical components

For precision mechanical components inside the engine compartment, such as the throttle body, regular cleaning is necessary. The throttle body is prone to accumulating oil and carbon deposits, which can affect the intake volume and engine performance. Generally, the throttle body can be cleaned every 20000 to 30000 kilometers. When cleaning, special throttle valve cleaner and a clean cloth can be used to gently wipe the throttle valve plate and intake passage, taking care not to damage the sealing gasket and electrical components.

The precision gears and bearings inside the transmission also need to be kept clean. When replacing the transmission oil, the transmission oil filter should be replaced at the same time, and the outer shell and interface of the transmission should be cleaned to prevent impurities from entering the interior of the transmission. Generally, automatic transmission oil should be replaced every 40000 to 60000 kilometers, while manual transmission oil should be replaced every 30000 to 50000 kilometers.

Cleaning of electronic components

Electronic precision components on cars, such as onboard computers (ECUs), should pay attention to dust prevention. Compressed air tanks can be used to regularly clean the dust around the ECU, but attention should be paid to maintaining an appropriate distance to avoid damaging electronic components. Generally, a simple cleaning can be done every 3-6 months.

For the surface of sensors such as cameras and radars, gently wipe them with a clean soft cloth to remove dust and stains, ensuring clear visibility. These sensors are crucial for the safety assistance systems of automobiles, such as adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, and other functions. Generally, the sensor surface can be cleaned once a week.

(3) Correct use

Follow the operating procedures

For cars with automatic start stop function, the correct method should be followed during use. When encountering long waiting times at red lights or traffic congestion, ensure that the vehicle comes to a complete stop before activating the automatic start stop function. Frequent and unreasonable use of the automatic start stop function may cause excessive wear on precision components such as the starter.

When using the sunroof of a car, be careful to avoid driving with the sunroof not fully closed, especially at high speeds. The precision tracks and seals of the sunroof may be damaged if they are affected by strong winds. At the same time, when closing the sunroof, wait until it is completely closed and locked before leaving the vehicle to prevent rainwater leakage.

Avoid overloading during use

The precision components of the car suspension system, such as shock absorbers, should avoid carrying overweight goods for a long time. Overloading can cause excessive load on shock absorbers, leading to early wear or damage. Generally, the load capacity of small cars should not exceed 120% of the rated load, and the weight of the goods should be evenly distributed.

For precision components of the car's air conditioning system, such as compressors, do not use the air conditioning for a long time while the engine is idling. Because the engine speed is low at idle, the working pressure of the compressor is high. Prolonged use in this way may cause the compressor to overheat and shorten its service life.

2、 Replacement of automotive precision parts

(1) Determine the timing of replacement

degradation

When the battery performance of a car deteriorates, resulting in insufficient power, difficulty starting, or significantly prolonged charging time, it is necessary to replace the battery. Generally speaking, the lifespan of car batteries is around 2-4 years, depending on the type and usage of the battery. Professional battery testing equipment can be used to detect parameters such as internal resistance and cold start current of the battery, and determine whether the battery needs to be replaced.

If the brightness of the car's headlights is significantly reduced and the bulbs are not damaged, it may be due to a malfunction in the headlight control module. The car light control module is responsible for adjusting the brightness and flashing frequency of the car lights. When its performance decreases, it will affect the normal use of the car lights. At this point, it is necessary to consider replacing the headlight control module.

Damage or malfunction

When a collision accident occurs in a car, causing cracks or damage to precision plastic parts such as bumpers and doors, it is necessary to replace these parts in a timely manner in order to restore the appearance and safety of the vehicle. For example, if the front bumper breaks, it not only affects the appearance, but may also affect the vehicle's aerodynamic performance and pedestrian protection performance.

For precision components inside the engine, such as piston rings, severe wear or breakage can cause problems such as engine oil burning and reduced power. In this case, it is necessary to disassemble and inspect the engine, replace damaged parts such as piston rings. The service life of a general piston ring is around 150000 to 200000 kilometers, depending on the engine's usage.

(2) Choose appropriate accessories

Original Accessories

Original parts are produced by car manufacturers and have the best compatibility with other parts of the car. They have undergone rigorous testing in terms of quality, specifications, and performance, ensuring the reliability and safety of the car. For example, the original engine parts of Mercedes Benz cars are produced according to Mercedes Benz's design standards and quality requirements, which can perfectly adapt to various models of Mercedes Benz, and can enjoy the manufacturer's warranty service in after-sales maintenance.

For some high-end car brands or car components with special technologies, such as the battery management system of hybrid vehicles, original accessories are often the preferred choice. Due to the technical complexity of these components, original accessories can ensure that they work together with other systems of the vehicle to achieve optimal performance.

High quality aftermarket accessories

If there are no original accessories or the price of original accessories is too high, you can choose high-quality aftermarket accessories. But it is important to choose reputable subsidiary brands whose accessories are also reliable in terms of quality and performance. For example, Bosch's automotive parts have a high level of recognition in the market. Its brake pads, filters, and other products have quality close to the original factory level and are relatively affordable. When selecting aftermarket accessories, pay attention to checking the product's specifications, production date, and quality certification information.

(3) Replacement steps (taking common filter replacement as an example)

preparation

Firstly, it is necessary to prepare a new filter and the necessary tools for replacement, such as wrenches, sockets, oil pans, etc. At the same time, ensure that the vehicle is turned off and cooled for a period of time to avoid burns during the replacement process.

Find the location of the filter, usually at the bottom or side of the engine. Use an oil pan to catch any possible oil leakage, and then use a wrench to loosen the fixing nut of the oil filter.

Disassemble the old machine filter

Gently shake the filter and remove it from the engine. During the process of removing the filter, be careful not to let the waste oil in the filter spill onto other parts of the engine. Pour the waste oil from the old machine filter into a suitable container for subsequent processing.

Install a new machine filter

Before installing a new filter, apply a thin layer of engine oil on the rubber sealing ring of the filter to help it install and seal better. Then place the new filter vertically into the filter seat and tighten the fixing nut by hand. Finally, use a wrench to tighten the nut to the specified torque, typically 10-15 N · m.

Inspection and cleaning

After installation, check if the filter is securely installed and if there are any leaks in the sealing ring. Start the engine and observe if the oil pressure is normal and if there is any oil leakage. If there are any abnormal situations, they should be checked and eliminated in a timely manner. At the same time, it is necessary to clean up the waste generated during the replacement process and maintain a clean working environment.
